Why this project?

WE HAVE AN URGENT PROBLEM WE MUST SOLVE. LONG SUPPLY CHAIN FOOD DEPENDENCE AND FARMER UNPREDICTABILITY ARE DANGEROUS.

Each year, Canada imports 573M lbs. or about $2.25B worth of leafy greens from thousands of kilometres away.

Judd Acres will be able to deliver on our mission to help fix Canada’s broken food system and replace imported produce with clean organic all natural leafy greens that are better tasting, the way our food is supposed to be.

Leafy greens are the most imported vegetables Canadians consume, with most coming from Mexico and California. The average leafy greens sold in Canada travel as much as 3,000 km and can take weeks to reach the end consumer.

FOOD IS PERHAPS THE MOST FUNDAMENTAL OF ALL HUMAN NEEDS.

Overuse of limited arable land, climate change, and global population explosion have all contributed to an impending food crisis. As a result, food security is one of the most important issues of the 21st century.

The pandemic has upended Canada’s food supply chain at every level, including production, manufacturing, packaging, transportation and retail. As a result, there are profound implications for consumers and businesses. COVID-19 was an eye-opener. Sustainable solutions are needed to loosen Canada’s dependency on imported goods.

Vertical farming is the future of food when farming is done in a completely controlled environment.

Its impact on our planet is significantly smaller than the traditional growing methods.

And yet, the productivity is higher.
